Tips for Writing 5-7 Sentence Summaries

Are you stuck on what to write for your book summaries each time you read? If so, don't forget that 5 W and an H questions that we use for newspaper writing.

  • Who is the story about?
  • What is currently happening? What action is taking place? What is the problem in the book that the characters are trying to solve?
  • Where does the story take place?
  • When are the events happening? In the past, present, or future? Is the action taking place in the morning or at night?
  • Why do you think the characters are acting the way they are? Do you agree with their actions or would you do things differently?
  • How do you feel about the book? Do you like the plot? Does it hold your interest? How do you think the problem will be solved?
