Columbus day is when Christopher Columbus sailed across the world to prove that the world was round. Columbus day was also celebrated in 1792, to honor the day Christopher Columbus landed in the Bahamas in 1492.Columbus day first became an official holiday in Colorado 1905. I think we should have a day off. He led four expeditions to the new world but never accomplished his original goal, to find the western ocean route to Asia.
We celebrate Columbus day not to celebrate one of the worlds biggest jerks, but to celebrate new colonizations. Without him we wold not have learned about the Americas for a lot longer. So I even though Christopher Columbus was a jerk, it is a good thing he was around. Then again he did give the native Americans smallpox. Which wiped out half of there population. Was it good or bad, I'll let you mull it over.
